EVENT: Jed Emerson, Social Entrepreneur, Funder, Investor in SF, Feb 24th, to Discuss Social Enterprise

I look forward to attending tomorrow’s (Feb 24th) informal chat with JED EMERSON on social enterprises at South Beach Harbor building at Pier 40, from 6-8 PM in San Francisco.

Who is Jed Emerson?
Jed Emerson has a long history in the field of social enterprise and impact investing, all of which started right here in the Bay Area.

He was founding director of both the Larkin Street Youth Center and REDF; has held faculty appointments at Harvard and Stanford Business Schools, and a visiting fellowship at Oxford’s Said Business School.

Jed coined the concept of Blended Value a decade ago and has written extensively on the topic since that time (www.blendedvalue.org).

To meet Jed Emerson, I paid for a membership to attend Social Entreprise Alliance events. Excited to attend the small forum with Jed Emerson, I drove over to SF and headed directly to Pier 40 during rush hour traffic on this raining night. Now as many years living in Oakland and knowing SF, I assumed Pier 40 was right after Pier 39. Everyone knows where Pier 39 is located. Although, I ended up driving a ways past Pier 39 through Fisherman’s Wharf area and finally stopped to ask someone where is Pier 40. A nice woman replied Pier 40 is clear on the opposite side. All the odd pier numbers are on this side, and the even on the other. Pier 40 is closer to the AT&T BallPark. I jump back into rush hour traffic on Embarcadero. Finally when I get to what clearly reads SOUTH BEACH HARBOR PIER 40. I excitedly park and start walking back and forth to the large harbor and then the building adjacent to the Harbor. Defeated – I find nothing that resembles a building where classroom discussions, only a dark scary harbor. It is now 745pm, I pulled out of the driveway and for some reason look to the left where a bright lit building caught my attention. EUREKA! A building tucked on the side of the ballpark – that’s it! I saw people in the room. That was surely the location. I recharged and drove through the AT&T ballpark parking entrance to see another sign that read – SouthBeach Entrance. The gate latch was down and no one was around. I realized its time to go home. 😦
